John H. Magill, 77, passed away July 26, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his adoring wife of 23 years, Rachel (Gosselin), his son John H. "Jay" Magill, Jr. and his wife Kristen, and his daughter Elizabeth L. "Beth" Shropshire and her husband Louis. His daughter Tracy A. Magill-Nelson passed away in 2000. He also leaves his stepson Deven Senior and his wife Tiffany, and stepdaughters Felicia McCann and Danielle Hardiman and her husband Michael, and his grandchildren Louis and Lauren, Kayla, Alyssa, Kelly, John III, Patrick, Daniel, Tony, Nick, Tatiana, A.J., and Tyler who will all miss their beloved "Grampie", and his brother James E. Magill and his wife Angela and sister Mary Altomare along with several nieces and nephews. John was an icon in the Grafton community and will also be missed by many dear friends. He was born December 2, 1934 in Rutland, MA, son of the late Agnes (Diver) and Henry Magill. His family moved to Grafton at age 8, when John was already working on the family's dairy farm. Many may not realize that John was a fiercely competitive boxer, having earned Gold Glove status as "Irish Johnny Magill". His work ethic never left him, and following his graduation from Grafton High School John began his life-long work as a builder in his early 20's which he continued for decades to come. He built all around his community of Grafton. Highfields Golf & Country Club was the culmination of a dream that John never stopped pursuing until it came to its fruition. He also owned and operated the Grafton Inn for 16 years, and most recently purchased Pleasant Valley Country Club in Sutton. When he wasn't building those who knew John know he loved to golf, follow the New England Patriots, and he could often be found behind the wheel of his truck snow-plowing in the winters. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife Rachel to Palm City, Florida, spending several winters there. In lieu of flowers his family requests donations in his memory to The Grafton Food Bank PO Box 324 Grafton, MA 01519.
