WORCESTER: Felicia Mary Fontaine died July 10, 2010 after several years of nursing home residence in Connecticut. She was the wife of the late George Peter Fontaine II. Felicia was born in Worcester November 1, 1919 on All Saints Day, a Holy Day and special birthday. She was the fourth of seven children born to Felecian (Felix) and Theresa (Solohub) Rojcewicz. Siblings preceding her in death were John Rocjewicz, Gertrude (Rocjewicz) Barry, Helen (Rojcewicz) Mayer and Johanna (Rocjewicz) Parker. Surviving are her sister Leocadia Guenter and brother Albert Rogers. With this family of siblings she had many nieces and nephews who considered Felicia a favorite aunt. Polish was spoken in the home and Felicia learned English when she entered school at St. Mary’s Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish in Worcester. The family home was on Granite St. for some time. Eventually the family moved to a farm in Auburn where she graduated from high school. She later received an Atelier Certificate and many accolades from the School of Art at The Worcester Art Museum. She also studied art in Boston and was a practicing artist for some time. She was talented in the arts including music. She had a lovely voice and enjoyed a wide variety of music throughout her life. All who knew her can remember her sharing her talents by singing often. In 1941 she married George Peter Fontaine II. They had six daughters and one son; Theresa wife of Judge Jan Michalski, Christine wife of Dr. John Diller, Felicia Zapatka, Georgianna Samia, Mary Ann wife of Dr. Richard Nutt, Susan wife of Joseph Butke and her son George Peter Fontaine III. In the 1950’s Felicia and George owned and operated The Mahogany Rendezvous Bar & Grill until his death. For many years Felicia lived in the Lake Quinsigamond area. She was full of knowledge and versatility always giving of her time and talents. Felicia took a cherished opportunity of a trip to Europe to see the art, museums and churches that she had long studied and loved. Felicia loved life and was very pro-life. She leaves sixteen grandchildren with many unique gifts and attributes inherited from her. Especially blessed with a nurse for a granddaughter, Felicia and all of the family were grateful for the loving care and close relationship which Jennifer provided for “Nana” helping her make her senior years her “Golden Years”. She also had nineteen great grandchildren ranging from 22 years old to eight months old including two year old twins. This June some of the family were able to gather together with Felicia for a wonderful last visit. She was beautiful and had her usual keen wit about her. She was a Good Samaritan throughout her life and often helped those who had little even when she had little. She shared all she had, always. Through sickness and in health Felicia had a long life as she always knew she would through her uncanny spiritual senses. Though her physical being was on the decline her thoughts were clear. She had a way of letting each of us know she was at peace and ready to meet her maker. Though we anticipated her passing when the day came there was no way to stop the tears that start in the heart when a mother and her children, even grown, are separated by death. Felicia had a full life with strengths and struggles, joys and sorrows, likes and dislikes. She was an individualist before her time, brave, hardworking, principled, vibrant and dancing to a different beat. Most remembered will be her love for us and how she somehow taught us to love one another and to love God. The family extends our warmest gratitude to all who have provided support and prayers during this time of their grief. Funeral Mass will be Saturday, July17th at 11:30 a.m. in St. John’s Catholic Church, 40 Temple Street, Worcester, MA. Committal prayers will then be offered in Notre Dame Cemetery Chapel in Worcester where she will be laid to rest. There will be calling hours Saturday, July 17th from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in The Roney Funeral Home, 152 Worcester Street in North Grafton before her Funeral Mass.
